The park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted; the bridge by Oscar Sanne. Paul Kupper designed the two plasters from which the lions were cast and carved. Stone cutter Otto Lachmund executed the carving under Kupper's direction. Published sources give conflicting media information. Reported to be either Bedford Limestone or sandstone.
