    Description:
Full-length bronze figure group of a mother and three children. The mother is dressed in traditional pioneer clothing and wears a long dress, shawl and shoes. She is standing, facing forward; in her proper right hand she holds the barrel of a flintlock rifle. On her proper left are two small girls. The mother has her proper left hand on the tallest girl's head. The tallest girl holds the smaller one with her proper left hand under the other's proper right arm. The smallest girl faces the taller one and looks into her face while nestling against the mother's proper left knee. To the mother's proper right is a small boy, clinging to her skirts. The boy leans against the rifle.
The bronze figure group stands in front of a concrete backdrop which emanates up from a wide rough-hewn granite base. On the back side of the backdrop is a bronze medallion with bas-relief. The relief depicts a team of oxen pulling a covered wagon. The oxen are led by a man. Inside the wagon are a woman and baby. Attached to the side of the wagon is a large barrel. At the bottom of the medallion is a relief of a cattle skull.
