    Remarks:
The total cost for the four Buffaloes was $30,000. The image in the Goode publication is a detail of just one of the buffaloes. IAS files contain a list of citations for Dumbarton Bridge articles that appeared in The Washington Star and The Evening Star from 1913-1916. The bridge was designed by architect Glenn Brown and his son Bedford Brown along the engineer for the District of Columbia, D. V. McComb. A. L. Guidone of New York was the contractor. The heads are made from a life mask of Chief Kicking Bear. IAS files contain an excerpt from "Bridges and the City of Washington," U.S. Commission of Fine Arts 1974, pg. 63-64 which also includes an image of one of the heads. Goode publication notes that the heads may have been designed by Glenn Brown. IAS files also contain article from InTowner, May 2005, which give brief history of bridge and references ongoing efforts for restoration including SOS! funded condition analysis.
