    Description: 
    Portrait of Leif Ericson, standing, with a powder horn slung over his shoulder. He is shading his eyes with proper left hand, scanning the distance. He is beardless and clad in shirt of scale armor, with bossed breast plates, beneath which falls a tunic, skin-tight leggings and leather sandals. From the studded belt, hangs a knife in ornamented sheath.

    Original unveiled in Boston on October 29, l887. This replica was erected approximately two weeks later, but no dedication ceremony was held at the request of its donor, Mrs. Joseph Gilbert.
