The title of the work refers to a short poem by American writer Marianne Moore titled "What Are Years." The sculpture was acquired in part through the Joseph H. Hirshhorn Purchase Fund and in part as a gift from the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, by exchange, 1999.
