Standing portrait of Commodore Barry dressed in his military uniform consisting of a long, double-breasted coat with fringed epaulets, knee britches, stockings, and a three-cornered hat. The bottom edge of a buttoned vest peaks out from under his coat which appears blown open by the wind. A sword hangs from his proper left side and is partially covered by his coat. Barry stands with his proper left leg forward and his proper right arm raised. He points out into the distance with his index finger. In his proper right hand, he holds a telescope at his waist. His hair is pulled back in a pony tail and on his face is an expression of concern. The sculpture rests atop a tall, square base on top of a four-stepped base.
