Located Seattle Public Library, Magnolia Branch, 2801 34th Avenue West, Seattle, Washington
    Remarks:
Commissioned by Magnolia Library Art Committee. Funded by Magnolia Library Art Fund, which included funds raised from donations. Cost: approximately $1,000. The sculpture is mounted on an outside wall in a courtyard which is inaccessible to the public; however, the sculpture can be viewed through a window from inside the library. SOS! surveyor reported that although records indicate that the sculpture is bronze, it appears to be made of sheet metal and steel rods with a coating of a rich brown color.
Metal cursive letters originally spelled out the artist's name next to the sculpture. When the letters and the sculpture were stolen in 1994, only the sculpture was recovered. Image files contain photographs of the work taken before and after the letters were stolen. IAS files contain notes about an attempt to steal the sculpture Nov. 3, 1974, which damaged the sculpture; it was subsequently repaired. IAS files also contain a copy of a newspaper article from Queen Anne News, Magnolia Edition (Seattle, WA), Nov. 18, 1964, which includes the artist's statement about the sculpture. For related article see: The Magnolia News (Seattle, WA), April 21, 1966, pg. 5.
