Owner:
Administered by City of Philadelphia, Fairmount Park Commission, Memorial Hall, West Park, P. O. Box 21601, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19131
Located Fairmount Park, North Concourse Drive in front of Memorial Hall, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19131
Provenance:
Formerly located Imperial Opera House, Vienna Austria
Remarks:
The two sculptures were originally created for Austria's Imperial Opera House in Vienna, but when they were installed, they seemed too large for the building. They were removed and the foundry was able to sell them to Philadelphia businessman Robert H. Gratz who then offered them to the Fairmount Park Commission. The sculptures were installed in the front of Memorial Hall in time for the Centennial Exposition of 1876. The image in the Fairmount Park Art Association publication is of only one sculpture of Pegasus, the one with Erato.
