    Description: 
    An abstract sculpture featuring three welded Cor-Ten steel J-shaped forms set in a row about five inches apart from each other. The forms are angled back at three different heights. The surfaces are rough to the touch. Each form is set in a groove on top of a base that is covered with a bed of rounded river rocks.

    The sculpture was completed by three undergraduate students at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The sculpture is referred to by students and faculty as the "U's" or the "J's."
    A nearby plaque reads: To some the sculpture is interesting; to some it's exciting; to some/it's unfinished because it hasn't been painted; some hope it's/temporary; some see it as a challenge; to some it is a positive/trend for more art on our campus; to some it represents a great/deal of work; some feel it's overwhelming; to some it's beautiful; to/some it's majestic. It strikes each person in a different way and/almost demands a response. That certainly is one of the functions/of art. Because any university worth its salt is a patron of the arts,/the sculpture is a welcome addition to our campus. We are/grateful to Cynthia Bingham '83, Michael Hertrich '82 and Suzanne/Pequignot '84 for their art and for being excellent examples too."/John E.
