    Remarks: 
    Masaryk was the principal figure in the creation of the Czechoslovakian Republic after World War I and served as the first president of independent Czechoslovakia. The sculpture was executed in Prague, Czechoslovakia. It was exhibited in the Czechoslovakian exhibit at the World's Fair in 1939. After the Fair it was given to the San Francisco chapter of Sokol, a Czechoslovakian gymnastic association, and installed in the Sokol social hall in San Francisco. Club members offered the sculpture to the city of San Francisco, hoping that a more suitable permanent location could be found for it. The national Sokol organization raised $10,000 for the marble base. IAS files contain related Art Commission documentation.
