Inscription:  (Proper left rear, near bottom:) NK (copyright symbol) 1988 signed Description:  Carved from a tree trunk, two firefighters stand at the bottom of a 14 foot ladder. Both men are carrying a fire hose and are dressed in fire coats and fire hats. The rear firefighter is wearing an oxygen tank on his back. The fire hose winds around the tree trunk and ends in the back. The top rung of the ladder and the upper ends appear to be capped with thin metal sheets. When it was determined that the tree was dying, the idea for a memorial surfaced and $8,000 was raised by the community for the memorial sculpture.
