(On plaque:) Viewland-Hoffman Receiving Substation/EUGENE R./HOFFMAN/1887-1976/Eugene R. Hoffman was Superintendent/of the City of Seattle Department of/Lighting from 1939-1953. During his/long and distinguished career as a/public servant he was an engineer for/the Washington State Highway Depart-/ment, Superintendent of Parks for the/City of Seattle, and state engineer for/the federal Public Works Administration. (Other plaques are installed throughout the substation)
Description:
Installation in an electrical substation including mural of triangular pieces painted in various colours mounted on interior concrete wall, color-coded electrical equipment, brightly painted signage, a chair, and an enclosed compound of 27 whirligigs made from found objects.

Remarks:
Funding for the installation was provided by Seattle City Light Percent for Art. The installation was designed by a project design team including artists Keating, Markovitz and Simpson and architects Hobbs and Rutherford from Hobbs/Fukui architectural firm. The mural was created by Keating. The chair was created by Simpson. The whirligigs in the compound were created by Emil and
