Remarks:
The sculpture commemorates Abraham Lincoln, and was erected to the twenty-four soldiers from Sharon who died in the Civil War. The sculpture's cost of $1,500 was raised by subscription. In June, 1917, the sculpture was partly blown down during a tornado, and may have been relocated. IAS files contain a related article from the Manchester Enterprise (Michigan), June 7, 1917, which discusses the tornado damage. The sculpture has also been "partially knocked down" by a car, but was reerected. IAS files contain related sections from: "Past and Present of Washenaw County," S. J. Clarke Publishing Co., 1906, pg. 789; and, "Combination Atlas Map of Washtenaw County, Michigan," Everts & Stewart, pg. 22. IAS files contain a related article from the Ann Arbor News, Aug. 12, 1956, as well as a partial transcription of names on one side of the obelisk.
