    Description:
A World War I soldier stands at attention. In his proper right hand he supports a rifle, the butt end of which touches the ground at his feet. He wears a military uniform with full marching equipment and a wide-brimmed hat. A carved brace is attached behind his proper left leg. The sculpture is mounted on a rectangular block base with beveled upper corners. On the front of the base is a bas-relief depiction of the Statue of Liberty. The base is flanked by an exedra in the shape of a half-circle. The seats have high, curved backs and curved arm rests at each end. A seated female in abstract is depicted on the inside back of each seat in low relief. The female on the left is shown in a proper left three-quarter pose holding an olive branch with both hands, her proper right arm resting on her proper right knee. The right female is shown in proper right profile holding a scroll. The sculpture rests on a circular foundation.

    Remarks:
The sculpture was budgeted at between $1,200 and $1,500. Funds were raised by the Hendrix Memorial Association under the direction of Professor W. O. Wilson. The sculpture is dedicated to the memory of six Hendrix College students who were killed in World War I: Tabor Blevins, J. L. Craddock, James Dowdy, Jr., Arthur McGuire, J. Watson Reynolds, and Robert W. Young. George Currie, a substitute Latin teacher at Hendrix College, designed the sculpture. Construction and carving of the sculpture was supervised by the artist's father, a marble dealer in Kirkland, Indiana. The sculpture was originally installed west of Tabor Hall. In 1923, the sculpture was moved to Young Stadium, first on the east side and then to the south side. When Young Stadium was torn down in 1973, the sculpture was moved and restored by Hendrix College Professor of Art, Bill Hawes. In 1974, the sculpture was relocated to its present site and a second plaque was added to the base at this time.
