    Description: 
    Figure of Mary stands on a tall four-sided structure. She wears a hooded robe, and her hands are clasped. Embedded in the base are fourteen bas-reliefs depicting the Seven Sorrows of Mary and the Seven Founders of the Servite Order. Images include Dolore III, St. Sostene, St. Amideus and St. Manettus.

    Remarks: 
    The Grotto is staffed by the Order of the Servants of Mary. It was founded in 1924 by Servite Friar Ambrose Mayer, who envisioned a place of retreat for experiencing the presence of God in nature. The sculptures were added at later various times. Gift of the Catholic Daughters of America in honor of the 700th anniversary of the Servite Order. Sculpture was blessed by Pope Pius XI prior to being transported from Italy to Oregon. The statue is positioned to look down to "The Christus" (OR000155). IAS files include a pamphlet and brochure drafts from the Grotto.
