Statue of St. John the Evangelist, (sculpture). Artist:  Brochet, Francois, 1925- , sculptor. Title:  Statue of St. John the Evangelist, (sculpture). Dates:  Dedicated Aug. 25, 1963. Digital Reference:  Medium:  Burgundian freestone on a concrete and granite base. Dimensions:  Sculpture: approx. 66 x 18 1/2 x 19 1/2 in.; Base: approx. H. 34 in. Diam. 81 in. (2,750 lbs.). Inscription:  A. Rochet (On book the figure holds:) And/The Word/Was Made/Flesh signed Description:  Abstracted figure of St. John, standing, holding a book to his chest with both of his hands. He wears a full length robe which drapes over his arms; the toes of his proper right foot stick out from under the robe. His head appears to be tilted slightly back, with his eyes gazing upward. The hands are quite large in comparison to the body. Rochet, however, from additional church materials it was determined that the artist's name is Francois Brochet. Undetermined if the surveyor was in error or if the signature was partially illegible.
