Inscription:  (On top of self-base:) MB/94 signed Description:  Full-length figure of a sailor carved from a single yellow pine log. He has a full beard and moustache. He wears a sailors cap, long pea coat and trousers. His proper right arm is raised and he holds a lantern in his proper right hand. The sculpture stands directly on the ground, surrounded by crushed stone. 'Old Salt' represents the spirit of warmth and hospitality in New England as he holds a lantern to guide the way of visitors to the Lakes Region. He was carved by chainsaw artist Mike Blaine on August 16, 1994 out of a single ten foot yellow pine log weighing 5000 pounds. Lakes Region Factory Stores proudly dedicates 'Old Salt' to our friends in the Lakes Region."
