    Description: 
    At the center of the pediment is a seated figure representing Missouri, her left arm rests on a shield bearing the coat of arms of the state of Missouri. A boy with a winged globe (the Spirit of Progress) stands to her proper right. The right side of the pediment contains personifications of Agriculture (a man driving a pair of oxen), Art (a female leaning on a capital and supporting a harp), and Learning (a female figure teaching a child), and behind the figure of Art, the "Genius of Light." The left side illustrates Commerce (Hermes guiding the steeds of Industry), Law (contemplating tablets inscribed with the Ten Commandments which are held by a child; Order (a reclining female figure crushing the serpent of Anarchy); and a figure of Justice.
