    Description: 
    A sled dog husky standing on a rough trail. His legs are spread apart and a leather dog sled strap is hanging from his back. His tongue is sticking out of his mouth and he looks as if he is panting. He stands on a natural rock out cropping. A low relief plaque on the rock below depicts a sled and six dogs with Balto in the lead.

    Remarks: 
    This statue is in honor of Balto, a husky who led a dog sled team through a blizzard to get desperately needed antitoxin to Nome, Alaska where there was a diphtheria epidemic. The sculpture was commissioned by the Balto Memorial Committee and was erected with funds donated by schoolchildren.
