Description:
Columbus is standing with his proper left hand outstretched and face lifted. His proper right hand holds a furled flag. Behind him is a capstan, a mechanical device used on ships to wind rope.

Remarks:
Commissioned by the New York Genealogical Society. Cast in Barcelona. The sculpture is modeled after a similar portrait of Columbus by Sunol located in the Plaza de Colon in Madrid. Napoleon LeBrun created the base.
