on an exedra base facing east. Formerly had eagles at each end of exedra, since removed by vandals. On pillar to the north, there is a granite head of a cow, representing Wisconsin.

Wolcott
(1804-180).
Wolcott
arrived in Milwaukee in 1838 and gained a reputation as a skilled surgeon. He performed one of the earliest successful removals of a diseased kidney. During the Civil War, he rejoined the military and rose to the rank of Brigadier General. His wife, Dr. Laura Ross (the first female doctor in Milwaukee, and the 3rd licensed female doctor in the U.S.), bequeathed funding in her will for a statue to commemorate her husband as a general. Packer designed the statue; Albert Ross and Tinella & Sons designed the base, pedestal and surrounding terrace.
