    A Union cavalryman astride his horse looks off to his proper right in search of the enemy. He holds his rifle down at his proper right side.

    Remarks: 
    The monument commemorates the Battle of Hanover in 1863. It was funded by the State of Pennsylvania. Originally the sculpture was installed in the center of the square, but was moved to its present position on the northwest corner of the square on Oct. 18, 1967. The sculpture was restored in 1987. IAS files contain an article from The Evening Sun (Hanover, PA), Oct. 12, 1984, pg. 3.
