Description:
Smith seated in a chair wearing an academic robe. He holds an academic cap in his proper left hand. His proper left arm rests on proper left arm of chair. His proper right arm rests on proper right arm of chair. On proper left side, below chair, is a stack of four books and a serpent. The tail of the serpent is wrapped around leg of chair. Smith's proper left foot rests on serpent's head. Figure and chair sit on a cylindrical base which has an ornamental border.
