The monument consists of a Sing Sing marble base which was installed in 1853 and is inscribed with a now barely legible inscription describing Andre's capture. In 1880, during the centennial celebration of the capture, a bronze relief plaque illustrating the event was added to the base, and the monument was topped with a second base and bronze sculpture of John Paulding. The bronze relief plaque is by Theo Bauer and the bronze sculpture is by W. R. O'Donovan. IAS files contain a newspaper article from the Westchester Daily News, April 2, 1983. The inscription on a plaque on the front of the wrought iron fence surrounding the sculpture reads: This tablet is placed/by the/Westchester County Federation/Colored Women's Clubs/as a tribute to the memory of/Mrs. Mary Taylor/who gave this ground on which the present monument now stands/Erected September 26, 1930. The inscription on a nearby plaque reads: Here in 1780 three honest/militiamen arrested Major John Andre Adjt-Gen.
