    Description: 
    Eleven relief panels depicting the history of transportation. The first panel depicts a globe surrounded by orbiting planets and stars. North and South America are also included in this panel. The second panel has nine birds flying toward a sunburst in the lower right-hand corner of the panel. The third panel depicts two Native Americans seated on the left side, and a Native American running towards them, with gift in outstretched hand. Fourth panel depicts a man and a woman waiting to receive a bag from a man on horseback. The fifth panel depicts a stagecoach and four horses. The sixth panel depicts a steam locomotive pulling three passenger cars and a freight car. The seventh panel has a small boat, a side wheeler, in rough water. The eighth panel depicts a large steamship in front of a cityscape and bridge. A train moves around a sweeping turn in the ninth panel. The tenth panel has an airplane flying into the sun. The eleventh panel is the same as the first panel.

    Bas-relief panels are set within the lower facade of a 15-bay, two-story Art Deco building. The designing architect of the Post Office building was George Oakley Totten, Jr. The panels were produced as part of the Federal Art Project, Works Progress Administration. The building is a part of the Cass Gilbert National Register Historic District.
