The bronze relief on the left, "A Call to Arms," depicts an angel above a woman who is holding a baby while seated on a cannon; a dove flies below her. The bronze relief on the right, "War," features an angel holding a torch above a soldier holding a sword in his proper right hand. The soldier supports a fallen comrade with his proper left arm. Lampposts are mounted on top of each pilaster, and between the pilasters is W. Clark Noble's bronze sculpture of Andrew Gregg Curtin (see also IAS record 77007337). Two interior pilasters are carved on the front with laurel weaths. Ten bronze inscription plaques, five on each side, line the sides of the gateway.
