    Description: 
    A standing figure of a Civil War soldier on evening picket duty while his comrades sleep. The soldier has heard footsteps and he stands reads to challenge those approaching, his rifle held at the ready and his hat thrown on the ground between his feet. His bayonet is attached to his waist on his proper left side. The sculpture rests on tall granite base adorned on the front with the emblem of the Ninth Army Corps.
