    Remarks:
The idea for this plaque grew out of a conversation that Franklin Roosevelt had with Justice Felix Frankfurter on September 26, 1941. Frankfurter reported that Roosevelt indicated he wanted a monument in the space in front of the National Archives that would be no larger than his desk. The plaque was funded through an anonymous group of friends whose names are sealed into the base. The group was organized by a friend of Roosevelt's, Charles F. Palmer of Atlanta, who was also chairman of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Warm Springs, Georgia Memorial Commission. IAS files contain an excerpt from Jannelle Warren-Findley's Aug. 1, 1985 report for the National Park Service entitled, "A Guide to Selected Statues, Monuments and Memorials," National Capital Parks - Central, National Park Service, Washington, D.C. (RFQ 3-4-1919) which includes a brief list of bibliographic sources, and notes to additional information found in National Park Service files. Stone work may have been done by the Vermont Marble Company.
