Inscription:  unsigned Description:  Animals indigenous to the North American plains are placed throughout the grounds of the Indianapolis Zoo. The animals are made of fence wire and include a bear, bison, whitetail deer, bighorn sheep, and an eagle with outspread wings on a wooden post. There is a group of three reindeer (or caribou) located to the west of the other animals. All animals are oriented toward the National Road, visible to passing traffic. (The zoo opened in June 1988.) The reindeer were moved from a Christmas display on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis, and are placed in the center of the zoo during its "Christmas at the Zoo" event.
