Description:
Standing figure of a Civil War soldier dressed in uniform with a shawl coat to his knees and a hat. His proper left foot is forward. He holds a rifle with both hands by the end with the butt resting at his feet.

Remarks:
George A. Hines of the Estey Company was the designer of the monument. A local wood carver Charles Henkel, who also worked at the Estey Organ Co., possibly contributed to the design of the figure. M. H. Mosman of
Chicopee
, Massachusetts, modeled and furnished the
bronze
figure and tablets. The statue was dedicated on Bunker Hill Day, June 17, 1887. At the time of the dedication, it was referred to as the Soldiers Monument.
